Young fashion designer Dooling Jiang will be the first story-teller who is not a photographer. She set up the conceptual design project DIGEST and digest design workshop [ddw] in 2010. In May 2011, Digest launched its first collection, in which there are two lines-­‐“Xiao” represents the RTW line and“Hua” represents the conceptual line. These two lines compliment each other and constitute into one body of work. She will tell the story behind the Digest and its first collection.

为什么消化？

消化，首先是一个积极的过程。每天我们都在进行各种消化，没有这个过程，生存便失去可能。消化同时也是一场选择，是身体和思维通过自我分析完成的选择，是本能。这就是“消化”想要传递的设计理想——积极，选择，本能。真实很好，但有趣比真实更好。不要停止对真实的跟随，她会带你走到更好的地方，那里的一切比这里都有趣，我们在那里等你。

消化春夏2011系列 — 成衣和概念

消化服装系列分为两条线，“消”为成衣，“化”为概念，两者互补组成整个系列。今后“消化”的所有设计都将发展自这两条主线。

成衣系列 “消”

［诡辩者sophist］诡辩者sophist这个词来自精妙sophisticated。诡辩者原指智者，是论述知识与美德的人，不过由于他们偏重缺乏道德基础的浅薄智慧，因此具有了贬义当下的时尚在我看来正是一门诡辩的学科，为道德而生的衣服，却被作为时尚的载体，不断挑战道德的底线来制造关注和话题作为服装设计师，吸引我的一直都是衣服本身所具有的表情和智慧在古希腊，衣服就是智慧的象征，是指引他们到达光明的向导，只有智者才可以不着任何底衣直接穿上衣服。
在衣服版式［pattern］的切入点上，我选择了圆形。“消”系列的主要款式，从内部结构到外部造型，皆以圆为强制出发点完成。至于为什么是圆形，我无法给出解释，就是本能选择。之前完成的一个系列“where is your border”便和方形有关，也许下一季，我会尝试三角形。
关于折纸部分的延伸是因为她的东方身份，并且折纸［origami］都是从方形开始，由折叠后形成的三角完成最终物的形态，她们可以和圆对话，互成几何三元素。折纸概念主要运用在配饰上［包，图样］。
在材质的选择上，有东方气质的材料和传统纹样的面料，比如郑板桥竹图样丝绵，扎染图样印棉，各种丝、仿丝，纤维纸；有西方审美体系的颜色，高纯度蓝，绿，银。

概念系列“化”

［光蚀 light lost］圆形在我看来和天空有关，大概因为中国古人说“天圆地方”。有天便有太阳，尔后有了光。光成为“化”部分的设计初始点。
想，如果我们看到的光是她的正面，那么光的背面是什么？光带来的应该是光明和发展，那么她的背面，大概就是黑暗和衰弱。“蚀”在中文意里有“亏耗”的意思，英文对应译为“lose”，［light lost 光蚀］系列就是这么延伸出来的，同时也是我对“消化”这个概念更深意的表达。

Why Digest?

Digest, first and foremost, is a proactive process.
We are digesting on a daily basis, a necessary process for our basic survival. Meanwhile, digesting can also be a choice, made by the self‐assessment of the body and mind. This is what the design concept “Digest”, aims to convey – proactive, choice, and instinct.
Real is good, interesting is better. Do not stop following reality as it will bring you to a better place, where everything is interesting – and we’ll see you there.

Fashion Magazine by ALEC SOTH 是继 Martin Parr 和 Bruce Gilden 之后，由玛格南图片社于2007年底推出的第三本时尚杂志。由于是将时尚与艺术摄影相结合的新尝试，面世后褒贬不一，但是作为出版形式，显然已经成为了值得参考的经典案例。今天，我们又将它翻出来说，就是这样意思。文末附 Alec Soth 对这次合作的感想。

Fashion Magazine by ALEC SOTH is the third edition of Fashion Magazine series by Magnum Photos, published in Dec. 2007. The first two editions are Martin Parr and Bruce Gilden’s.

由一人担当摄影和作者的时尚杂志，依然是一本杂志，而并非书，所以它的制作不能让我自个儿慢悠悠地完成，而是需要合作。合作的想法很快定下。去年年底，玛格南巴黎工作室的人和我联络，提议共同制作这一期，我很快就同意了。我是前两期（由Martin Parr和Bruce Gilden主编）的超级粉丝，而且一直希望可以找到借口玩玩时尚。我觉得当我拍摄肖像时，并不是在 “捕捉”对方。如果要说摄影记录下了什么，那就是主体与自己之间的距离。在制作时尚杂志时也是如此。我对巴黎或者它的时尚界并非了如指掌，而同时我也怀疑，大多数的巴黎时尚人士对明尼苏达州知之甚少。真正有趣的是我们之间存在的 距离。香奈儿在这方面做得很好。我在巴黎大皇宫拍摄Karl Lagerfeld，在明尼苏达州的莎莉美容院前拍摄一个手拎香奈儿购物袋 的女孩。通过这本杂志，我试图探索这两个地方之间的距离。（Alec Soth）（翻译/Lilith）

‘While Fashion Magazine has a single photographer-author, it’s still a magazine, not a book. So it doesn’t follow my usual mode of slow, solitary production. It’s collaboration. The ideas for the collaboration were formulated very quickly. I was approached by the folks at the Paris office of Magnum to work on this issue late last year. I immediately said yes. I was a huge fan of the previous two editions (by Martin Parr and Bruce Gilden) and was looking for an excuse to play with fashion. … I often say that when I am making a portrait, I’m not ‘capturing’ the other person. If the photograph documents anything, it is the space between the subject and myself. Something similar is at work with Fashion Magazine. I’m not really comfortable saying I know anything about Paris or its fashion world. And I suspect that most fashionable Parisians know just as little about Minnesota. What is interesting is the space between us. My favorite example of this involves Chanel. In Paris, I photographed Karl Lagerfeld at the Grand Palais. In Minnesota, I photographed a girl with a Chanel shopping bag in front of Sally’s Beauty Shop. With this magazine, I’m trying to explore the distance between those two places.’ (Alec Soth)

假杂志本周的访谈客人是一个中国独立品牌JL的创始人之一芬芬。JL由芬芬和Nicole创立于2008年，至今已经做了四个系列，分别是以四个带有古典韵味的词语命名：春日迟迟、山水盆、子空皆地、山海经。想了解更多关于JL信息就看两个系列作品之后的言由对芬芬的访谈吧。

This week’s guest of InterView is an independent Chinese brand JL, established in 2008 by Fenfen and Nicole. JL is a Chinese character –“儿”(er), a japanese character ”ル”（ru）and also JL are two english letters J and L. It has no real meaning. They just hope people can read out JL aloud in as many languages as possible. JL is trying to combine the taste from Chinese traditional painting and poem what we call as Yi Jing with personal imagination about the future, to find a new way to make fashion and share it with everyone on the earth.

请介绍一下你自己，以及JL品牌。
我是芬芬，2008年和nicole一起做了JL这个服装品牌。“JL”即是中文“儿”（er)，也是英文“J” 和“L”, 还是日文”ル”（ru），无论汉字还是字母都没有具体的含义，我们只是希望有尽可能多的不同语言的人都能读出来。”JL”试图将我们心中所喜好的中国古诗、词、画中的趣味和意境，与我们对未来的设想相结合。借由衣服这个媒介传递并与大家分享。

为什么会想到将服装和诗词联系到一起？能否谈谈成立JL的初衷？
很喜欢古诗词的那种意境。寥寥数字却又画面无限，是极具灵性的感悟。这是种很中国的气质，不易言颂，却很珍贵。服装是最容易和人产生互动的载体，我们想借由这个载体把这种气质在现在人的日常生活中传递下去。

在品牌成立之初是否遇到些难关？如果有，是如何度过的？
有遇到过各种或大或小的困难. 我们会一起讨论，然后在现有的情况下做最适合我们的决定。主要原则是坚持做自己想做的事和给予对方100％的信任。

我发现JL在平面、摄影等多个环节都很注重细节，请谈谈你的设计观？
选择最合适的人，最合适的材料，做最合适的设计。

提到“大师”，你马上想到的名字是哪个？谈谈你心目中的他/她（们）？
单纯对“大师”这个词没什么好感。但是有很尊敬和欣赏的前辈，比如王一扬。我挺喜欢李白的，很有才华，作品大气。

请分别介绍下“子空皆地”和“山海经”系列吧？
JL 子空皆地系列
“子空皆地”是中国围棋的胜负规则；围棋是一种策略性的二人棋类游戏。我们试将“子空皆地”理解为“没有棋子的地方都是你的地盘。”以此给自己以及对方鼓励。我们在生活的各类游戏中思索着策略的关键作用，并将继续以游戏的心态完成工作。这季款式设计上继续研究和实验中式剪裁的现代应用，并逐渐探索出儿式独特趣味走向。

JL 山海经系列
被山海经吸引是因为神话奇特又神秘的黑暗魅力。这季与平面设计师朋友stan合作，制作了stan绘制的关于山海经的图案面料。合作的感觉很好，加入新的能量能产生奇特的化学反应。丝绒的尝试也使我们对面料的使用选择进了入新的阶段，以后的空间豁然开朗了。

minä perhonen 是日本服装设计师皆川明的自主品牌，对芬兰的热爱是设计师将品牌用芬兰语命名的缘由，minä perhonen 在芬兰语中意为“我蝴蝶”，因此皆川明又特意将品牌的产品目录命名为《紋黄蝶》，自07-08秋冬系列以来都会随着每季的新款衣服同时出版发行，在其官方网站有售。2010-2011秋冬系列的产品目录除了册子之外还附有一张DVD，合计2100日元。

minä perhonen is Japanese fashion designer Akira Minagawa’s brand. Because of his special love to Finland, he named the brand as minä perhonen which meant My Butterfly. He also named the catalog of the brand as  紋黄蝶 (means yellow butterfly in English), released every season from 07-08 a/w collection. You can buy the catalog on its website. The catalog for 2010-2011 a/w collection includes a booklet and a DVD, amounting to 2100 JPY.

Christian Dior曾在今年早春在上海大秀，并请来大卫·林奇拍摄以上海为背景的短片，这次请来中国摄影师时晓凡以上一季的高定系列为灵感，合作了这组艺术摄影，同样充满了上海滩风情。这已经是时晓凡第二次与Dior合作，与第一次的“陌生人在玻璃箱”系列相比，我更喜欢这个。
