New Photography 2010 in MoMA

MoMA’s current exhibition New Photography 2010 presents four artists—Roe Ethridge, Elad Lassry, Alex Prager, and Amanda Ross-Ho—whose photographs mine the inexhaustible reservoir of images found in print media and cinema. This work above is by Alex Prager. Prager takes her cues from pulp fiction and the fashion images of Guy Bourdin to construct filmic narratives starring women disguised under synthetic wigs, dramatic makeup, and retro polyester attire. You can view the exhibition online.

In the framework of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relationship  between Switzerland and the People’s Republic of China, the Embassy of Switzerland in Beijing initiated a photography project between the two countries. Chinese photographer Zhu Yinghao and Swiss photographer Petri de Pità were asked to portray the life of 60-year-old Chinese and Swiss citizens under the theme “Happiness”.  Two photographers went to each other’s country finishing the project in 15 days along with 30 60-year-old people in total.  The result is that we see more relations between “people” than the relations between two “countries”. Though the “happiness” is a kind of appearance, it is also a part of the fact. The exhibition opened on Sep. 14th, and will last to Sep. 28th at M.R. Gallery, 798 art district, Beijing. If you are in Beijing, do not miss it.

KAWA=Flow Exhibition by Yamamoto Masao

Framed individually, Yamamoto Masao‘s work can be similar to the poetry style of HAIKU. HAIKU brings flow to the poetry world by featuring seasonal words and capturing a vivid moment.  Yamamoto’s photographic works present a moment in a similarly beautiful and momentous flow. The world is beautiful and ever changing; only when we stop at this river do we notice the flow.
