“I’ve copied pre-existing dictatorial art. Paintings from North Korea, statues of assorted dictators (Kim Il Sung, Laurent Kabilla, and Saddam Hussein). I had these works re-created in China, and each instance, I’ve replaced the great leaders with myself.”

Photographer Du Yang (also know as Seatory on the web) will bring us her STORY this time. She was born in 1988 in Hefei, Anhui Province, China, and was enrolled in Beijing Film Academy after one year’s suspension of high school. She will graduate in June 2011. Four years in BFA is an unforgettable memory for her. Two series Distractive Youth and Lunar Swimming Pool are the scenery of BFA from her view. Let’s see what kind of story she will tell us.

Since 2005 Krause is studying at the Ostkreuzschule for Photography, Berlin. The series Hawaii Backwards consists of 13 photos and was created in 2008 over a period of three months. About this series, she said, “I wanted to photograph the ‘other’ Hawaii, beyond the bustle of the surfer- and vacation-crowd. Maui, where most of my photos were taken, is very touristy and busy but if you go inland there are many quiet, peaceful places.”

Romka is a magazine devoted to personal favorite photographs. Unlike most other formats, in which artists showcase highlights of their portfolio or most recent work in order to promote themselves, Romka is an opportunity to discover pictures that really matter: the print from your fridge, the portrait of your lover that you always keep in your wallet, pictures of places you love and memories you want to cherish forever. Since all this has nothing to do with a commercial photographic career, Romka treats amateurs and professionals alike. The project started off as an online magazine in 2008 and finally made it to print with issue #5, including 36 artists from 19 countries who share their personal favorite photographs.

Wang Yishu, born in 1973 in Liaoning Province, China, was brought up in Gansu Province. He now lives and works in Guangzhou as a photojournalist for Southern Weekend.

Tokyo based photographer Deng Yun (flickr) will bring us today’s STORY. He was born in Shanxi, China, and has been in Tokyo since 2003. He came interested in photography in 2006 and bought a DC for himself. Then he met his girlfriend in 2007. As they both loved the colors and tones of Japanese films which were full of granular sense, he bought a lca+ on his grilfriend’s birthday and started to shoot with film camera. Thanks for his Tokyo Story.
