Aleix Plademunt

Photographer Aleix Plademunt was born in 1980 in Girona, Spain, currently living in Vancouver. His approach to landscape is rooted in his reading of the signs and symbols he encounters. His reading is careful and detailed and centres on the action of man and its relationship to landscape. These works are from his Dubailand series. In this series, Dubai appears as a very symptomatic place that is quite transparent about the social and ideological characteristics that have determined the artificial construction of its landscapes. Since such processes are happening all throughout the world, increasingly melting the idiosyncrasy of previously different cities in one single mode, as in many other projects by Plademunt, does not deal so much with topos, about Dubai. Hayashida Setsuko

Hayashida Setsuko, born in 1976 in Tokyo, graduated from Tokyo College of Photography. She started the “Ebb and Flow” series from 2000. Every summer, she came back to her mother’s hometown at the seaside of Nagasaki. “Came back” was only possible to feel sincerely. The courtyard has been quiet for a hundred years, watching the changes on people and things. Sometimes, we can feel the changes on photographer herself. These works are from “Ebb and Flow 2009″.

New Photography 2010 in MoMA

MoMA’s current exhibition New Photography 2010 presents four artists—Roe Ethridge, Elad Lassry, Alex Prager, and Amanda Ross-Ho—whose photographs mine the inexhaustible reservoir of images found in print media and cinema. This work above is by Alex Prager. Prager takes her cues from pulp fiction and the fashion images of Guy Bourdin to construct filmic narratives starring women disguised under synthetic wigs, dramatic makeup, and retro polyester attire. You can view the exhibition online.

The InterView vol.38: Lei Lei

Lei Lei is a rising new-generation animation artist with his hands on graphic design, illustration, short cartoon, graffiti and hip-hop music, and in 2005 he founded design group “Raydesign Studio” when still in Tsinghua University. He now is also one of the members of hip-hop band HEY!!!. You can see more works on his website.

Jan Otto Schreiber / The InterView vol.37: Jan Otto Schreiber

Jan Otto Schreiber, a photographer from Hamburg, Germany, decided to explore Australia last year.  He bought a ticket aboard a Cargo Ship and embarked on his 2-month journey.  By the time he reached the Australian shore, he had taken over 250 shoots of the sea and the ships and islands passing by.  he spent weeks editing the proofs and finally ended up with a collection of 14 images. SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE SHORES is the title of this project. These yellow-tinged, pale collection of photographs mimick the experience of quiet nostalgia and the subtle stillness of the ocean. Jia Za Zhi invited him to talk about this series and his photography.
