Pierluigi Riccio / Interview with photographer Pierluigi Riccio

Pierluigi Riccio,1975

Pierluigi Riccio was born in 1975 in a little city in the south of Italy, now i live in Rome. His works often show a self-possessed distant and a calm angle, whatever the color pictures or B&W ones, the static or dynamic moments. It is a old interview posted in jia za zhi’s old version.

> When did you get interested in photography? How did you start?
> I was about 16 years old when i bought my first reflex, a zenit 122, I was so proud of it. I started to observe the world around me in a different way, focusing on one thing at a time with the right patience and the right time. It was like having a microscope rather than a camera, by pointing a single fragment of life you can see the whole story. And I have to say thanks to my philosophy studies, they gave me a new point of view and new eyes to see the world.

> What’s your comments on the city you live?
> Well, Rome, like my wife use to say, it’s a mess, and I say fascinating mess, you have large skies, amazing light and a kind of soft decadence that inspires every picture you take.

> Speaking of “master”, who will you instantly think of? please give your comments on him/her in one sentence?
> It’s really hard to talk about one master but if I have to choose one immediately, well, I think William Eggleston, he’s the father of all contemporary photographers, he has the gift to tell a story pointing a detail.

> Besides photography, which fields are you focusing on?
> I’m an art director, I work in an advertising company so I have to deal with photography all the days, not so bad.
